A fair that respects artists and craftsmanship has been setup at Shalini grounds in Jayanagar. To all the lovers of desi craft, this is definitely where you have to visit over the weekend. The Swadeshi mela has been running since 6th April and will be present over the weekend until 10th April.
The stalls that is present in the Swadeshi mela range from seeds, plants and pure khadi materials to agarbattis, herbal tea and brass diyas. All the products sold in this fair are purely indigenous and are made by small scale factories majorly. This is an opportunity for Bengaluru to support its own way of an aatmanirbhar economy. A special highlight in this swadeshi mela is a stall setup by Karnataka tourism that displays the various travel getaways from Bengaluru which is what we missed in these three years. It takes approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes to cover the area of the mela with over 50+ stalls. At the end of the stall showcase, towards the exit there are fun games for the children to play and food stalls with yummy food.
Bengaluru has always been known for its popular food outlets and this mela only had the best of all parts of the city from spicy hot chilli bajjis, Davanagere benne dosa, Bangarpet chats, bisi – bisi benne akki roti and to beat the summer heat some cool ice cream. The cleanliness and security has been neatly maintained. However there is a shortage of parking outside Shalini grounds because of its location. This Swadeshi mela is a beautiful place for a weekend as a family if you love watching the artisans in Karnataka.
