Mithali Raj and her cricket journey

Mithali Raj is an Indian women cricketer from Jodhpur, killing it on the field since 1999. She is the highest scoring batsman and one of the greatest female cricketers. Mithali Raj was the captain of the women’s Indian cricket team from 2004 to 2022. She recently announced her retirement from cricket in a statement.

“I set out as a little girl on the journey to wear the India blues as representing your country is the highest honour. The journey was full of highs and some lows,” Mithali wrote. “Each event taught me something unique and the last 23 years have been the most fulfilling, challenging & enjoyable years of my life. Like all journeys, this one too must come to an end. Today is the day I retire from all forms of International Cricket.”

Even before Mithali Raj announced her decision of retirement from cricket, a biopic based on her life story was in the talks. “Shabaash Mithu”, a biopic based on Mithali Raj is all set to release on the 15^th of July, 2022. The title character of Mithali Raj is being played by actress Tapsee Pannu. The rest of the cast are all according to Mithali’s close circle.

When the cricketer announced her retirement, Tapsee Pannu penned a heartfelt note about her and her amazing journey in cricket. 

Achievements of Mithali Raj

Mithali started playing cricket at an early age and even set records at the age of 19. She is the first captain for most matches in the ODI and T20 format. In 2019, she retired from T20 cricket in order to focus on her dream of winning the one day world cup in 2021. Mithali is nicknamed as “Lady Tendulkar” for her brilliant runs. She is also the first Indian to score over 1000 runs in World cup. Mithali also received multiple awards like the Arjuna award in 2003 and Padma Shri in 2015.

With such vast number of achievements, Mithali finally decided to retire from international cricket on 8^th June, her passion and career giving way to more free time for her. Her father Dorai Raj also said his daughter will be more restless now as she has lived all her life with cricket. “She cannot get over it easily” said her father and so are her fans who cannot get over her brilliant stunts on the field and Indian cricket will miss Mithali Raj in action.
