INTRODUCTION
Google, the Internet search engine, has added three new capabilities to its navigation software, Google Maps, for iPhone users. The firm will now enable iPhone users to share their current position via iMessages, integrate Google Maps to widgets, and utilise the Google Maps app in Dark Mode.
All of the features are being rolled out today, but Google claims in its blog post that they will be accessible to everyone on iOS this month. Here’s a little additional information on each of these features:
Support for Dark Mode
Finally, Dark Mode is finally available on Google Maps. Dark Mode was introduced to iOS devices as part of iOS 13 roughly two years ago, and it is currently supported by Google Maps.
According to Google, this feature will be available in the next weeks. To enable it, iPhone users must go to Settings, touch on Dark Mode, and then pick βOn.β To be consistent with the iPhone’s system settings, the app supports Dark Mode.
Location sharing in real time
Google Maps will enable iPhone users to communicate their current position using Apple’s own messaging programme, iMessage. Users will be able to do so using the iMessage app, where they will see a Google Maps button.
By default, users will be allowed to broadcast their location for one hour; however, this may be extended up to three days. Users must touch the βstopβ button on the thumbnail to cease broadcasting their real-time location. We looked for this functionality in iMessage and found it and used it.
IPHONE Google Maps search bar
With iOS 14, Apple added widget support in an effort to make it easier to access apps. Now, the firm has released a search widget for Google Maps, allowing iPhone users to instantly find areas designated as favourites and other frequently visited sites.
Google already enables the addition of widgets for Chrome, Gmail, and Search. The new widget design indicates that it will be separated into two sections: one that displays traffic conditions and the other that displays shortcuts to favourite locations as well as other important locations.
