Bengaluru’s first AC railway station

Have you ever faced a question where people ask you why travel by a train when you have high facilities like flights? You stayed back longer at an airport than in a railway station because it has better infrastructure? Have you wished that railway stations become more modern? Well, there’s news as Bengaluru paves way to its first AC railway station.

M Vishweshwaraiah terminal was launched and opened to the public earlier this month. It is the first railway station in the city with a centralized AC system. It was constructed over a year ago but was only launched this month. The delay in the launch was due to the delay from the Prime Minister Office. The government of Karnataka decided to have a formal launch by the Prime Minister. As they didn’t receive any intimation they decided to go ahead with the launch, skipping the inauguration a year later. The first train to start from this station was the Banaswadi-Ernakulam Express.

Features of this railway station

This railway station construction is based on the Kempegowda International Airport. It is also the fifth railway station in Bengaluru following central railway station, yeshwantpur, cantonment and krishnarajapuram. It has a digital ticket system like the metros and electric security system. This railway terminal has seven platforms and a special provision for rainwater harvesting. It has a fully air conditioned terminal, lobby and hall and also has a food court.

With features that match the airport, it is sure to attract more travelers. It is also a change for those who prefer travelling in flights for its airport time. So far only three trains have started operating from this terminal and soon more trains will continue to operate from here. This is a step forward in the city’s smart city development. Bengaluru needs more such train terminals for easier and cheaper travel.
